Imaginative cuisines, superb service, open air restaurants all await one's culinary experience at Le Touessrok.
My recent sojourn was a complete success, the result of relaxing days, including massages, the peace of mind in perfect surroundings and excellent, well-balanced cuisine.
Le Touessrok offers perfect surroundings with a wealth of dinning experiences from upmarket dinning to exotic cutting edge Indian and relaxed beach BBQ.
Arriving in the evening, we were checked in with the minimum of fuss, and while our butler unpacked the bags we wandered down towards the beach to dine at Barlen's. The restaurant offers multi course dinning where the guests is expected to choose 4-5 dishes and enjoy a myriad of flavour explosions. The portions are excellent - most restaurants offer one bite dishes in this current trend, however Barlen's portions are just right that you are able to share your dishes with the loved one across the table- Mauritian dishes sit alongside Asian inspired and classical dishes with a modern dish quite comfortably and Barlen's represents Mauritian cuisine in a sophisticated contemporary manner.
Breakfast's were served in 3-6-9 the main restaurant and although the ‘buffet' serves in excess of 300 guests the restaurant never feels crowded. The buffet contains all the standard international fare plus a few surprises here and there. I was impressed with the kiddie's buffet- a low table crammed with the stuff kid's love for breakfast - and mothers worry about- crepes, coco pops and the like - but also the more healthy options- bowls of fresh fruit, delicious yoghurts and more. Talking of healthy options the juice bar - all freshly squeezed by chef ‘Doctor'- is a must visit, even if like me you not that health conscious - because the healthy delicious concoctions that are juiced are a real surprise to the taste buds and a great pick me up.
Lunch at Robinson Crusoe's is a must. Situated on the beach island- a lazy 10 minute drive by boat- will give you the real island feel. The minute you step off the boat , the barefooted staff clean your sunglasses, spray your face with scented water and what seems like nanoseconds later you're a seated with the drink of your choice in one hand and savouring the tropical surrounds.
Lunch is honest simple fare - all from the charcoal grill- we ate a stunning freshly shaved palm heart salad with various relishes and perfected grilled freshly caught snapper. Pure heaven and food as it should be.
Dinner at Safraans is a must. Here the chefs whip up there magic in mother of pearl encased tandori ovens and the modern take on Indian cuisine is pure indulgence: soft fragrant curries served in a contemporary fashion, freshly baked Naan breads- must try the blue cheese stuffed Naan- all matched with superb service and great wines - I felt like a Raj from days gone by ..........
All in all,Le Touessrok's cuisine is innovative cuisine served within inspired scenery and artfully combines international favourites with island flair. Classic yet contemporary dishes are served with the unmistakable warmth and personable Mauritian staff of Le Touessrok.
